when traditions change

Merry Christmas readers!

A lot has happened in my life since last Christmas. Amazing things like marriage and a new job.

But also sad things like loss, too.

I didn't know it at the time, but last year was the last Christmas I would ever spend at my mamaw's house. That's how suddenly things can change.

But I'm especially thankful today for the faithfulness of God. He never changes. He is the same God He was when I was saved at 10, when I started this blog at 17, and when I was walking around UT campus with worship music playing through my earbuds at 18.

He's the exact same. I think that should bring comfort to us all.

I know for me, I crave consistency. I don't like change most of the time. I love traditions.

But even traditions, what are supposed to be consistent ever year, can change.

So, how incredible is it that this deep desire we all have for consistency is fulfilled in God?

That's how it always works.

The things we desire most are truly fulfilled in Christ alone.

So, this Christmas, I ask you: what is it that you desire?

Now, ask God to show you how He has already fulfilled that desire.

Friend, as followers of Jesus, we have so much to be thankful for. We have a consistent God who loves us no matter how inconsistent we are.

Maybe you're like me and your family traditions won't look the same this year. It's going to be hard, and I will probably cry at some point from the 23rd-25th, but let me encourage you with this: the same God who was with you then is still with you now.

That hasn't changed, and it never will.

Jesus is called Immanuel, which literally means, "God with us." Call on Immanuel today and rest in His presence.

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us)." Matthew 1:23
