Things I've Learned in 22 Years

On Wednesday, I turned 22! (Can someone say Taylor Swift birthday)! Anyways, in my quiet time today, I started thinking about what I've learned in those 22 years and made a short list. It isn't 22 things, but it's valuable lessons nonetheless.

So, here are some lessons I've learned along the way of 22 years:

1. Nothing comes remotely close to knowing Jesus. Seriously. You could have everything this world has to other, but it wouldn't even compare to a personal relationship with Jesus.

2. You can never read the Gospel of John too many times. Just trust me on that and keep reading it. As you read, fall in love with Jesus over and over.

3. The Word of God is powerful. It's quite literally changed my life.

4. Conviction of the Holy Spirit is a blessing. For one thing, it's evidence that you're saved. A lost person doesn't experience the conviction of the Holy Spirit when they sin. It also shows you where you need to grow.

5. Sometimes it's good to just be excited when God has brought you to a season that you once dreamed of and spent years praying for. Right now at 22, married to love of my life and in my dream job, sometimes I just let myself sit and be happy and excited about what God is doing. It strengthens my faith and reminds me of how good God really is.

There are many things I could've written, but these are the things that came to mind today. Over half of my 22 years of life have been spent following Jesus, and it has been the most beautiful journey. I can't wait to see what He has for me in this next year and all the years to come!

I want to end this post with some lyrics from a song that my mamaw used to love to sing. These words were like the anthem for her life, and I hope my future grandkids can say the same about me someday.

"What a journey this journey has been with my Lord, walking and talking with Him. He has ever been faithful, there by my side. On Him, I can depend. Though steps may grow weary as I nearing the time when my life here shall end, I'll shout it with victory as I'm leaving here: what a journey this journey has been."
