Navigating Change | Isaiah 40:8

Today, I realized that I haven't written a post in a long time talking about what I'm feeling and what God is teaching me in that. Posts in the past when I've done that have proven to be some of my favorite things I've ever written, so let's see what God does with this one!

Right now in my life, I find myself in a place that I've been a lot in my life: wrestling with change.

I know change is a natural part of life. I know we can't stop it. But, sometimes, when it comes, whether you know change is a natural part of life or not, it's just hard.

In the last few years, my life has been full of change. Some have been amazing (graduating from UT, getting married, starting my dream job using my gifts for the Kingdom), and I find myself full of wonder and excitement due to these changes.

But, other changes have been hard (losing my papaw to covid, losing my mamaw, family traditions lost, not seeing friends much due to busyness), and I find myself struggling to adjust to them at times.

It's just been hard. Sometimes, I find myself clinging to any sense of consistency and grasping for any thread of "normal" from before December 2020 when my papaw died that I can find. But, in those moments, what I need to do most is grab a Bible from the stack of them on my nightstand and cling to its words.

Isaiah 40:8 says, "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever."

The Word of our God will stand forever.

No matter what changes you face in life, you can count on the promises found in Scripture to stand true. They will never change. They will never fade away. When everything else fades away, you can grab hold of the words in your Bible and know you'll never lose them. You'll never lose the truth of God. You'll never lose His infallible, inerrant promises.

So, when you're like me and lose one of the people closest to you to a virus, or don't get to eat Thanksgiving dinner in your grandparents' family room anymore, or aren't in the "know" in your cousins' lives who you used to see weekly, or are so busy that you rarely see your friends who used to be a part of your daily life and you see their lives on social media and wish you had a bigger part in it, whatever the changes in life that you're facing, you can stand on the promise that the Word of your God will never change.

Part of Well Read's mission statement is to teach you why you should read the Bible. I think this is just another great reason that you should read the Bible. You'll find stories about a God who will never fail, promises that will never be broken, and realities that will never change.

Struggling with change in your life? Open your Bible. Rest in the consistency of God and His Word. He'll never let you down.
