Last month, the Lord put it on my heart to study the book of Hebrews, and wow, did He have a lot to teach me in those twelve chapters. I was in a place where I so needed an increase of faith. I was dealing with a lot of fear of the future and the unknown. God used this book of the Bible to increase my faith and show me that it takes faith to trust Him with the unknown. I needed to respond to the unknown of the future in faith and not in fear.
Last night, I went to church with my mom, and the message was on Hebrews 11 and faith. God used this message to encourage me to share some of what He taught me from my study of Hebrews.
In chapter eleven, we see the faith of great men and women of God from the Old Testament: Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sara, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Rahab, Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthae, David, Samuel, and the prophets.
It was in this same chapter that we find the definition of faith, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1 KJV).
The truth is, there is temptation to take the easy road in our lives rather than the path that God has made for us, but I think we can learn from Moses on this subject.
Look what God says in His Word about Moses, "By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; Choosing to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward" (Hebrews 11:24-26 KJV).
Moses chose to place his identity in Christ rather than in the world. He understood what it meant to keep his eyes fixed on things above. He chose to follow God's Will for his life rather than to have great riches in Egypt. He knew there was an eternal reward. If you know Moses' story, you know it wasn't easy for him, but I am sure today he would tell you that it was all worth it to be in the presence of God Almighty.
Let's all have faith like Moses. Let's follow God's plan even when it is scary, and there are unknowns, and there is no way we can do it on our own. That's the point. We must have faith and rely on God's strength. Trust Him to part the Red Seas in your way, to provide in the wilderness, to get you to where you need to be. He is faithful, and He keeps His promises.
Let me leave you with Hebrews 11:6 to increase your faith: "But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a Rewarder of them that diligently seek Him."
