Are you in the 18-25 age range? Are you navigating young adulthood, whether that is college, grad school, a new career, or marriage?
As a 23 year old wife, I am always looking for resources that will help me pursue God first during this season of my life. Today, I thought about what other young adults need, and these book titles came to mind.
Being an English alumni from UTK, I LOVE to read. I enjoy many different genres and types of books. It is one of my favorite hobbies, and if you are reading this blog, I would guess you probably like to read, too.
Here at Well Read, we are here to teach you the Bible, why to read it, and how to read it. We care so much about your Biblical literacy! With that being said, part of teaching you how to read the Bible is helping you find resources that will increase your knowledge of the Bible and apply Biblical principles to your life.
That is why I decided to write this post: to help other young adults find books that will show them how to approach life Biblically. If you are a follower of Jesus, it is important to consume content that is glorifying to God and helps you grow in your walk with Him, and these books are that content.
1. Who Are You Following? by Sadie Robertson Huff- Our generation is the first to have actually grown up with social media, so it is not always easy for older generations to be able to relate to us in that way. Sadie, who is an older Gen Zer, wrote a book on how to "pursue Jesus in a social media obsessed world." You may wonder how to live out the teachings of the Bible when it comes to social media, and Sadie breaks that down and gives practical advice! I believe everyone in our generation should read this book.
2. New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp- This book is a devotional, so it could become a part of your daily routine. I recommend reading it in the morning (as the title suggests) because it will help you start your day off on the right track. This devotional talks about deep, theological truths and always points back to Scripture and the Gospel. As a young adult, your own theology is forming, so it is crucial that the content you are taking in has solid theology.
3. Find Your People by Jennie Allen- Whether you are a college student struggling to find your friends or figuring out how to invest in friendships post-grad, Jennie has challenging but useful tips to invest in friendships as a young adult. We all need meaningful friendships, especially as believers, but in a post-pandemic, social media filled world, how do we do it? Jennie answers this questions as well as explains why community is Biblical and needed in the Christian walk.
4. Don't Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table by Louie Giglio- It is no secret that the enemy is after our generation. As Christians, he can never have our souls, but he will try to steal our joy and keep us from advancing the Kingdom. We CANNOT let this happen! In this book, Louie discusses common attacks from the enemy and how to combat them. Spiritual warfare is real, and this book will help you be better equipped to resist the enemy's schemes! You also will leave this book with a better understanding of Psalm 23.
5. Forgotten God by Francis Chan- To live our lives in a way that honors God, we must know the Holy Spirit and understand His role. I read this book the summer before I started college, and I left it with a much deeper of the Holy Spirit and how He wanted to work in my life. If you have a relationship with God, the Holy Spirit dwells within you, and He wants to help you seek first the Kingdom.
I encourage you to check out these books and learn more about applying the Bible to your young adulthood life!
