This post is a little different than previous posts, but I think it is an important one. If you need some songs to encourage you and to sing to our Lord, these are some great songs to sing out to Him. They each have a special place in my heart, and the Spirit just stirs in my soul every time I hear them. So, here is my top 10 favorite worship songs! :)
10. Do You Know How It Feels by The McKameys- This is more of a gospel song than a contemporary song. As I have mentioned before, my aunts, mom, and Mamaw have been singing in church for years, and this is probably their most requested song. Every time it is sung, the church erupts in worship and praise. People are shouting, lifting their hands, and enjoying the presence of God. It basically tells the testimony of a Christian: how it feels to be saved and to know the eternal destiny of your soul is in Heaven. It just reminds you how much of a blessing it is that Jesus saved your soul, and it takes you back to the time you accepted Him into your heart.
9. So Will I (100 Billion X) by Hillsong UNITED- This song is so spiritual and absolutely beautiful. It always causes me to think of the characteristic of God as the Creator. A lot of Christian music focuses on God as our Father, Savior, and Provider. All of these are great: it is just not the most common thing to hear a song about God as our Creator. It shows me just how much detail God put into everything He makes. Nothing is without purpose, and I just love that about Him.
8. His Life for Mine by Gracie Carr- This is another more gospel type song. It is about Jesus' sacrifice on the cross for us. My favorite line is, "His crown of thorns made me royalty." That one line just makes me want to fall on my knees and thank Jesus for what He did for me. I think we take it for granted sometimes because we hear about it every Sunday, but it should never become something that falls on deaf ears. He DIED for you, and He didn't just simply die. He SUFFERED in ways you and I cannot imagine.
7. Blessings by Laura Story- If you are going through a hard time, this is the song for you. Sometimes we do not understand God's plans, but we can always trust that they are good. When I listen to this song, I remember that God is for me and loves me. He isn't going to leave me in the dark. The Holy Spirit has used it to comfort me many times.
6. How Can It Be by Lauren Daigle- I am sure at some point in your walk with Christ that the devil has tried to convince you that you are so unworthy of God's love. We are unworthy of it, but that does not mean that He does not love us. That is what is so incredible is that He loves us despite that we are unworthy. This song has always been one that reminds me that the devil is a liar, and Jesus gave His life so that I would be free.
5. What a Beautiful Name by Hillsong Worship- This one almost speaks for itself. There is just something so special that happens when we lift up the Name of Jesus and proclaim the power of that Name. I am so thankful that God led Hillsong to write this song because it has touched my heart in so many different ways. There is no better song to jam out in the car to than What a Beautiful Name.
4. Forever by Kari Jobe- If you have never heard this song, be prepared to lift your hands with tear filled eyes. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most important event in human history: it changed the entire world forever. This song captures the power and celebration of that resurrection so perfectly. If the fact that Jesus defeated sin, hell, darkness, and the enemy does not make you want to shout, then I honestly do not know what to tell you. I cannot think of a better song to sing on Easter or really anytime because Jesus being alive should be something we never stop getting excited about.
3. Do It Again by Elevation Worship- Have you ever been in a situation where it seems impossible to find a solution? You honestly just want to give up because there is no hope. Except, us children of God always have hope. This song reassures me of God's promises of His great faithfulness. God specializes in the impossible; the impossible is just God being God. When you need to know that God will handle your problems according to His Will and His timing, give this one a listen.
2. Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) by Hillsong UNITED- Y'all already knew this one would definitely be on the list. If you know me at all, you know it is more than just a song to me .Oceans challenges us to trust God enough to led Him lead no matter how scary it may be. It shows us that where the Spirit tells us to go is the best place to be. It seems like you enter God's presence as soon as it starts playing. It is no wonder that it is arguably the most popular worship song of our generation. If you have never heard this song live, you gotta do it someday. Hearing Taya Smith lead worship to Oceans is to this day one of the most God encountering moments of my life.
1. Reckless Love by Cory Asbury/Bethel Music- I mentioned this song on the blog a few weeks back; well actually, I named an entire post after it. I found this song by accident on YouTube one day, and it was honestly such a special moment. One thing that I have always struggled with since I became a Christian is feeling pressured to be perfect and always feeling like a failure when I did not hold up perfection. God has used this song so much in our relationship to teach me that His love and my salvation has never been and will never be about me or what I have done. It is about Him and what He did on the cross. I said just yesterday that Reckless Love never fails to leave me wrecked, and I hope it never stops. If I ever lose the wonder of God's love, I will be a lower place than ever. Please go listen to this song if you feel worthless, ugly, self conscious, lonely, or simply just want to feel the love of God in your heart.
I know this one was a bit different, but I just felt like you guys might want some new songs to listen to as well as hear about why I love the songs that we all love! Let's all make a joyful noise to the Lord tonight because He is so worthy of it!
